There was a time when even looking at a helicopter made me ill.
I was scared to death to fly. The thought of dropping thousands of feet out of the air and to hit the ground "splat" terrified me. And the thought of doing it in a helicopter where I could see it coming left me in a puddle of sweat.
But one day I was meeting with a client at a helicopter hanger. (I have the pleasure of working with the most interesting people!). He asked me if I would like to take a picture in his chopper. I hesitated for a moment... and then said yes!
The result is this picture that you see here.
The only way to get over a fear is to confront it head on. You have to look it in its eyes and call it by its name. You must give yourself permission to transform that fear into energy to motivate you to do something different with your life. And then re-lease it, giving yourself a new lease on life to do a new thing.
While I can't promise that I will be learning to fly anytime soon, I can now look at a helicopter and smile because of this memory... This little picture that means so much.
